Lupus Generated Hives On Body

Hives is commonly known as urticaria and represents a kind of rash. When you have urticaria, you develop on your skin circularly – shaped weals, which are red – colored and itching; they appear in clusters that have individual evolution. They may be small or very large and may appear on any of the body regions. The most frequently affected skin is that which covers the throat, arms, legs or trunk.

The apparition of hives may be influenced by a series of factors like infections, insect stings, allergy to foods, medications or other diseases such as lupus.

5-10 % of the lupus cases also involve occurrence of hives. It is not known what triggers hives in lupus, but it is assumed to be caused by a particular type of antibodies only present in some of the patients' affected by lupus. It is also possible for it to be caused by solar exposure.

Individual urticaria usually disappears in one day. In case this doesn't happen, urticarial vasculitis may be present. Urticarial vasculitis may be caused by lupus and it is a disease of the skin generated by the inflammation of the small blood vessels present in its structure. Its characteristic symptoms are: a burning sensation in the affected area, itchy affected skin; healing may leave bruises behind. To diagnose this condition, a biopsy of the affected skin is required.

Medicines for hives:

The same medications are used for urticarial vasculitis but they need to be taken for longer periods. It is important to stay out of sunlight and, in case you have lupus, to properly treat it.
